The public has spoken: the most popular posts on my blog are those which are all about me (posts about my tea garden, dog, and move to Pennsylvania). When a "31-day blog challenge" came across my screen, I decided to participate.
Many of the list items in this challenge require only short paragraphs. What is the point of posting a blog if you only post 10-seconds of reading material? With that being said, I plan to do the challenge in seven days. Here are the rules:
I must post one blog post daily for seven days.
The blog posts will answer the questions in the challenge with complete honesty and transparency.
I will answer any and all comments that are posted within the seven-day period.
If you are unable to read the questions in the photo above, check out the challenge schedule below.
20 Fun Facts About Me:
1. I am from New Zealand. I grew up in Hawkes Bay on the North Island and lived in Hastings or Napier most of my childhood. My extended family still lives in various places in New Zealand.
2. I moved to the US (Redding, CA) in 2008. I was seven (almost eight) and my siblings were two, four, and six years old. On our way over to the US, we stopped in Tahiti and waited for the next flight in boiling heat with young children and a ton of suitcases.
3. I went to Bethel Christian School from 3rd to 8th grade. I then went to Foothill High School for a few weeks. I hated it. When we got the call that I had been admitted to University Preparatory School, we were thrilled. I attended University Preparatory School until my graduation in 2019.
4. I once died a strip of my hair blue. It was a grand mistake.
5. I have matching pajamas with my dog.
6. My family has 2 ducks and around 13 chickens. I even bred ducks at one point!
7. My family has had all kinds of pets: guinea pigs, mice, chickens, ducks, fish, and hamsters. But my favorite is the dogs.
8. I personally have a Mini Goldendoodle named Asha (2 1/2 years old) but the family also has a Shih-Tzu/Spaniel mix named Twixie and a Husky/German Shepherd named Izzy. Read all about my dog.
9. I've been a cyborg (Cinder in particular) twice. Once for Halloween and another time to meet Marissa Meyer. Check out my robot-hand art!
10. My name is in the paperback of Renegades. I was able to participate in a pre-order event for Archenemies which allowed for this.
11. In high school, I created a club: The Writing Club. I had very few members (most of whom were incredibly unenthusiastic) but we did write a poetry anthology on Wattpad. In my senior year, I was voted out of the presidency of my own club!
12. I've been to Mexico three times on mission trips. I went to Ensenada, La Paz, and el Niño. I have been working on my Spanish since the second trip and I hope to keep getting better. I meant to go on the fourth trip in 2020 but that didn't quite work out.
13. This isn't my first blog. When I was younger, I posted my medical journey on a site I called "Living Through Life." The site is no longer active.
14. I have dressed as the Mad Hatter 3+ times. I absolutely love Alice in Wonderland and had an Alice in Wonderland party for my 18th birthday and decorated a table for school with an Alice in Wonderland theme.
15. I once won a prize packet from a fan event for Marissa Meyer's books. The competition involved coloring a page from the Lunar Chronicles coloring book and posting it. I won all sorts of things including a signed copy of the coloring book.
16. I have a planned seven-book series entitled Once Upon a Tome. The series starts with a twist on Goldilocks called The Criminal which I have already completed (but not published). It also includes twists on Red Riding Hood (and the wolf), Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and Sleeping Beauty. I've been working on the series since 2016 and have everything from a character binder to maps and a family tree for the series. Read about the series in the Once Upon a Tome section of the blog. of the
17. I published my first book, a poetry anthology in December 2020. It is entitled Imagine This: From Pain to Possibility. The book has sold about 75 copies and I've had multiple people contact me to tell me it impacted them greatly. You can buy the book on Amazon.
18. In High School, I went to Elevate Camps twice. It was one of the best experiences of my life both times. More recently, I was a counselor at the camp for both junior and senior highers. While there were some faults with the camp (mostly due to COVID problems), it was a blast and I was redirected during camp to discover my plan for the future.
19. I have three siblings, all younger than me. The elder of my two sisters (nearly 20) attends Cornell University. My brother attends Embry-Riddle's aerospace engineering program this fall. My youngest sister will be attending The Hill boarding school with a great scholarship. I am proud of them all.
20. My parents are both amazing pastors, leaders, and counselors. My dad runs Heaven in Business and Authentic Solutions. He has clients who brag about his ability to guide them and pray in miracles for them. He has a wonderful relationship with Christ which I admire him for. My mum has run Kingdom in the Classroom in the past and not only co-wrote Dream Culture with my dad but also co-wrote Kingdom Tools for Teaching with a number of teachers. She now often ministers to others with Dad (and gets the same positive feedback). She does all this on top of making dinner, carting her kids around town, and keeping the house clean. Plus she's a master crafter.
