Poetry.
Is it me or is poetry such an interesting topic to study (I'm actually planning on taking a poetry class next year).
See the mood, the flow, the sense that your poetry is just going to work really comes and goes.
At least it does for me.
What made me think of all this? Well, I got another letter from a publishing company the other day. A publishing company I had submitted my poetry to. My poem, they told me, had moved on to the semi-final round, and was to be published in an anthology.
Yo may recall this is the third time this has happened for me.
That certainly doesn't make it any less exciting.
Poetry is one of those forms of writing that has no rules. That stands outside the guidelines and restrictions of grammar, of perfect spelling even, of essay writing and long hours of writing novels into the night.
A poem is a relief. A drop of water when you've been stranded in a desert for years.
No... That's not right.
A poem is a glass of water, a gallon of water. You may try to satisfy yourself with writing a chapter of a book, with finishing of that essay that you're passionate about. But they, they are only a drop of water and when you've finished them, you only come up desperate for more, searching for something to relieve your pain.
And then you sit down at your desk, at the computer, or with a sheet of paper, with a piece of wood and a knife to carve with. Anything to get the words out of your head and into the world.
And the poetry flows and the relief flows with it. Pure as the clearest stream, just melted from the fresh mountain snow.
